Commuter Club Offers Free Online Traffic Therapy

ATLANTA (June 8, 2005) – While traffic in Cumberland-Galleria continues to improve, commuters employed in Atlanta’s northwest office market still deal with one of the country’s longest commute times. However, more help is on the way for the traffic weary. In May, Commuter Club launched a traffic therapy Web site, www.CommuterClub.com. The Web site offers an online forum where visitors can browse and upload pictures that get to the core feeling of what it’s like to be a commuter in today’s age. From images lamenting current gas prices to those showing some of the “hidden” benefits of carpooling, the site gives visitors a chance to share a quick laugh or upload their own image. In the first three weeks of the campaign the site has already received nearly 1,000 visits from commuters in the Atlanta-metro area and all over the country. From now until September 15th, commuters are encouraged to upload a creative photograph and tagline to the Web site through www.CommuterClub.com.

Original, fun and imaginative photos can win participants an array of fabulous prizes that include a $7,000 home entertainment system, a $2,000 in-dash car navigation system or a $1,000 digital camera and video package. Other prizes include $100 gift certificates to Subway and Caribou Coffee. Grand prize winners are selected by other visitors to the Web site through a fun ranking process. Further details can be found on the Web site

Current photo submissions range from one Georgia commuter’s previous carpool partner (a mannequin head!) to local Atlanta commuter, Garrett Vonk, who submitted a photo of himself and a friend in one of the regions many traffic jams with the tag phrase, “Stuck in traffic at 9:00 at night! We could have walked to dinner faster...”

While on the Web site, visitors can also discover another “traffic therapy”. On the site, Commuter Club explains how Atlanta drivers can ease their traffic nightmares and receive free cash with the Clean Air Campaign’s Commuter Rewards program. Right now, people who drive alone to work in the 20-county metro Atlanta area can get paid $3 a day, up to $180, to carpool, use transit, bike, walk or telework.

Commuter Club was founded in 1996 to help find solutions to transportation and workforce concerns in the Cumberland-Galleria area. It offers creative transportation solutions for companies and property managers that effectively address employee retention and morale issue. These solutions mean greater cost savings for companies and their employees. Commuter Club is a community service of the Cumberland Community Improvement District that encompasses a 5.5 square-mile area surrounding the I-75/I-285 interchange. Sample images from site can be made available upon request.
