Love Your Ride to Work? These Vanpoolers Do!

Vanpool crew

Front row left to right: Gene Davis, Francois Joisil, Bruce Moseley, Marcellino King, Richard Kennedy
Back row left to right: Amy Edwards, Susan Noll, Jason Maglovsky, Richard Eason, Mike Lemay, John Babbit

If you’re not a vanpooler, it may seem like a complicated task to coordinate every rider’s schedule. Not for VP 25420. This group of 11 has their commute down to an art, from north Gwinnett all the way to their offices in Vinings.

Making multiple stops doesn’t slow down this crew because they work together to keep things moving. Riders appreciate that John, the primary driver, considers everyone before making a decision about the van. Mike, Jason and Amy rotate as John’s co-pilots and serve as alternate drivers when needed. Francois and Bruce, the only two riders that are in different office buildings, make an extra effort to be on time in the afternoons so the van can take everyone home.

This group doesn’t sit in silence on their van rides. They often discuss current events, sports (courtesy of sports fanatic Richard Eason) or their latest home improvement efforts (with advice from Jason, the resident fixer-upper). Susan takes advantage of the opportunity to nap and Marcellino regularly joins her if he isn’t chatting on the phone in the back.

For Gene, the benefits of vanpooling are a no-brainer. Not only does he save money, gas and wear and tear on his own truck, but he has met new friends too. “The greatest value for me is the reduction in stress,” Gene says. “Now I come home and have the energy to do the things I want to do.” VP 25420 recently welcomed Richard Kennedy to the crew, who joined after tiring of the 100 miles per day in non-HOV lanes.

We’d love to hear your story, too! If you love your ride to work, e-mail Ginny Rainey.
